About Prayer Times in Dhaka

How much prayer times move across the year in Dhaka

Across the year Fajr in Dhaka moves by about 2 hours 36 minutes between its earliest and latest. These are the earliest and latest each prayer falls, calculated for Dhaka’s coordinates using Islamic Foundation Bangladesh and the Hanafi Asr calculation. Standard time is used throughout — add an hour wherever daylight saving applies.

Prayer	Earliest in the year	Latest in the year
Fajr	03:42	05:18

Asr	15:42	16:39
Maghrib	17:18	18:47
Isha	18:39	20:14

Which calculation method Dhaka uses

Prayer times are not a single agreed set of numbers. Fajr and Isha depend on how far the sun sits below the horizon, and different authorities pick different angles, so two apps can both be correct and still disagree by several minutes. In Bangladesh the convention most widely followed is Islamic Foundation Bangladesh, and that is what timetables printed locally will usually match. If Azan Time differs from the board at your masjid, the calculation method is almost always the reason — set it to match and the times line up.

Asr in Dhaka: the two calculations

Asr is the prayer where the difference is largest and most noticeable. The standard calculation begins Asr when an object’s shadow equals its own length; the Hanafi calculation waits until the shadow reaches twice that. In practice the Hanafi time falls roughly 45 minutes to an hour and a half later, and the gap widens in winter. Mosques in Dhaka generally follow Hanafi practice. This single setting explains most “my app says a different Asr” confusion.
