How Prayer Times Are Calculated

Prayer times are determined by the position of the sun relative to your location. Fajr and Isha depend on the angle of the sun below the horizon — these angles vary between the major calculation schools. Azan Time supports eight of the most common methods used worldwide:

• Muslim World League — the global default, widely used in Europe and non-Arab regions
• ISNA — Islamic Society of North America, standard across US and Canada
• Umm al-Qura — official method in Saudi Arabia
• Karachi — University of Islamic Sciences, common in Pakistan, India, Bangladesh
• Dubai — UAE standard
• Qatar — General Authority of Islamic Affairs
• Kuwait — Ministry of Awqaf & Islamic Affairs
• Egyptian General Authority — common in Egypt, Syria, Iraq, Lebanon

Always use the method followed by your local masjid. If you're unsure, ask your imam — the differences between methods are usually only a few minutes.
